When is the right time to pursue surgery?
It can often be a frightening and difficult decision to pursue orthopedic surgery. This form of surgery can take a while to heal from and requires substantial rehabilitation. If over the counter pain medications or steroid injections haven't reduced your pain effectively, however, it might be time to seriously consider having surgery.
Are you prepared for rehabilitation? Why isn't 'minimally invasive' always best?
A caution, however: do not have surgery unless you are prepared to follow all of the physical therapy requirements. Also, when discussing with medical staff which surgery would be best to undergo, keep in mind that 'minimally invasive' is not always the best option.
How can I minimize health risks after surgery?
After surgery, the only way to prevent infection is to maintain an antibiotic cover. Trying to be physically active as soon as possible after the surgery will minimize the risk of blood clots as well.
