Jose R. Perez, M.D.
Dr. Jose Perez is a Miami native and Orthopedic Surgeon who specializes in Sports Medicine with a focus on hip, shoulder, knee and ankle surgery. He performs restorative and reconstructive surgery utilizing cutting-edge and minimally invasive techniques to treat a wide range of pathologies. Dr. Perez has a special interest in shoulder pathology, including rotator cuff tears, shoulder arthritis, and instability. He also has expertise in knee surgery to treat ACL and meniscus tears, malalignment and cartilage preservation. In addition, Dr. Perez has special training in hip arthroscopy for labral tears and femoroacetabular impingement. Patients also seek out Dr. Perez for biological alternatives to surgery such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and bone marrow/adipose derived stem cell injections.
Dr. Perez spent the majority of his training in Miami at the University of Miami. He graduated Cum Laude with honors with a degree in Microbiology and a minor in Chemistry. He then pursued his medical degree at the University of Miami and later remained to complete his surgical training at Jackson Memorial Hospital/University of Miami. He later pursued a fellowship in Sports Medicine in New York City at NYU Langone, where he was trained in innovative and state of the art procedures including arthroscopic procedures, cartilage restoration, and biologics.
During his time with the University of Miami, Dr. Perez helped cover college football as he played a role on the medical staff for the Miami Hurricanes, in addition to covering the Miami Marlins. He later went on to become part of the medical staff for the NHL New Jersey Devils and NFL Jacksonville Jaguars. During his time with the NFL and NHL, he played an active role in providing orthopedic care to players and staff. He also participated in the NFL Combine and NCAA March Madness as medical staff.
In addition to operating and covering collegiate and professional sports, Dr. Perez is well published with over 20 peer-reviewed publications, several podium presentations at national conferences, and plays an active role in attending the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) and American Orthopedic Society of Sports Medicine (AOSSM) annual meetings.
